In the past fifty years museums-and museum going-have expanded exponentially and both the role and the meaning of the museum have changed because of that expansion.  Large museums have become entertainment centers and the experience of looking at art has become one aspect, among many, of museum going.  In selecting the program of the small museum, this studio aims to connect the experience of viewing art more closely with the design of the museum environment and to investigate some of the more art-related qualities of what it is like to be in a museum -  Professor Tarek Ashkar ​​​​​​​
